The Building. A Pedantry of Lines
The work collected here was made during a year-long working period at the Jan van Eyck Academy, a post-academic residency in Maastricht (NL).
All the work is a result of inhabiting the space for a longer period of time. While making work for an exhibition and the annual open studios, the beautiful, post-war modernist building become more than the backdrop for the working process. Most of the works somehow emphasis, or rest against a line that is already there. For instance, I made ceramic objects by literally pushing the clay against an architectural element, before taking it elsewhere to fire and glaze them. I consider all works to be drawings, even though very few of them were made using drawing materials such as pencil and paper.
